Mental Health Awareness Week 15-21 May

'Let's Go Outside'

This week, at some time, we've all gone outside for some aspect of our learning.  Getting the fresh air whilst the weather has improved has been a great part of our mindfulness and awareness of our mental health and how to look after ourselves.

Have you been to Potential Kids yet?  Run by a parent of a child at St Luke's, Angela is passionate about supporting young people with SEND to access learning, activities and friendships in a safe and welcoming environment.  Focusing on teenagers, this is an absolute gem of an opportunity for young adults to meet outside of school hours.

Have a great weekend!

Our Vision is a world where people with learning disabilities 'thrive'

Our mission is to promote the abilities in disability

Our Values are that we look after ourselves, each other, our learning and our environment.

'Being Isolated Like a Tiger' by Scarlett

Being isolated like a tiger,

Creamy white, dark chocolate, honey glow, caramel smooth.

Colourism.

Your attitude is like a box of crayons that colours your world.

Does it matter?

What colour is our skin?

No-one is born hating another

person because of their race.

Being isolated like an animal in a zoo,

Prowling around like a tiger

Roaring of pure anger,

Fierce as a tiger.

Dental Service Visit to St Luke's

Today, Dee and Kayleigh from the Specialist Dental Service came to St Luke’s to talk to our pupils about dental health and hygiene. They talked about all the foods which were bad for our teeth and showed us how many spoons of sugar were in various fizzy drinks. Upper and Middle school saw some interesting photos of teeth and gums that had been damaged by sugary foods and drinks. We were shown how to brush our teeth and gums properly to keep them in good condition.

The pupils were all very interested in the presentation and everyone was offered a new toothbrush to take home.
